What Do I Do With the Time God Gives Me?
When I have extra time, I’m quick to find more work for the world. But what if empty time isn’t something to fill? Maybe it’s an invitation to be present with God and hide His Word deeper in my heart.

I should give God more of my time.
I’ve been noticing something about myself.
Whenever I have extra time, I have a tendency to fill it.
If there isn’t enough work to do, I create more.
I check something.
I build something.
I scroll something.
I find another problem to solve.
It’s almost as if having nothing to do makes me uncomfortable.
And somehow, the world always has something available to fill the space.
But lately I’ve been wondering:
Why am I so quick to give my empty time back to the world?
Time itself is a gift from God.
So maybe one of the ways I can show gratitude for that gift isn’t by squeezing more productivity out of it.
Maybe it’s by giving some of it back to Him.
Not because reading the Bible is another task I need to accomplish.
Not because I need to check off enough time with God to feel like I’ve done my part.
But because I want His Word to actually live in me.
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
Psalm 119:11
You can’t hide something in your heart that you’re never present with.
That takes time.
Quiet time.
Unproductive time by the world’s standards.
Time where nothing is being built, sold, posted, optimized, or accomplished.
Just time with God.
The world has trained us to see an open hour as an opportunity to get ahead.
Maybe sometimes an open hour is an invitation to be still.
I don’t think the goal is to stop working hard.
I think the goal is to stop assuming every available moment belongs to my work.
I want to become more grateful for the time God gives me by becoming more intentional about where I give it.
Because if I’m not careful, I can spend my entire life doing things for the world while telling myself I never had enough time for the One who gave me all of it.
Maybe I don’t need more time with God.
Maybe I need to stop giving all of my time away.
